Are Hebrews Allowed More Than One Wife

There are many in the Black Hebrew community who are advocating for the man having multiple wives - just as Muslim men do. Is this allowed for God's people? Is there any happiness in a polygamous home? Is there one without bitter rivalry and subtle resentments and jealousies?

  2. Of course not! There is no happy polygamous home. They may pretend to be happy, but, there is no real happiness when one has to share love with multiple partners. God created Adam and Eve - one man to one woman and vice-versa. And that is how it is meant to be, especially for God's chosen the Hebrews.

Men get away with Polygamy because women allow it. I look forward to the day when women of faith (Hebrews and Muslim) will take a firm stand and say NO IT IS AGAINST MY BELIEF to ANY man wanting to make them 2nd, 3rd, or 4th wife.

Before rushing to blame the man, remember entering into a Polygamous marriage is a choice modern women make. It is not forced on them. Once upon a time, the economic situation made women opt for Polygamous relationships because it offered them the most or best protection. It is not the same today. In the modern age women in some cases have more economic leveraged than men. Therefore, these can choose if they want to be in a Polygamous relationship or not. It is all about choice.

I wouldn't want to share a husband.

You are wrong to say it is not forced on these poor women. In many Muslim countries girls are married off at a very young age when they don't know any better.

Hey guys, take a look at the wife in purple dress, on the right, next to the husband. Is that really a woman? Looks like a man with a veil on. What do you all think?

Mawuli, would you think according to scripture, our forefather's were in volved in plural marraige, they had a wife in the north and in the south. Not two wives living in the same area.

Interesting! I am curious.. Where did you read that our forefather's who were in involved in polygamy, had a wife in the north and in the south and not two wives living in the same area?

Abraham had 3 Wives - Sarah wife of the south, , Hagar sent her away also, and Keturah was wife in the north.
Jacob had 4 Wives - Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah, which gave us our whole Isrealite Family from each wife.
David had 3 Wives - Michal, Abigail, and Ahinoam of Jezreel.
Gideon had seventy sons, his own offspring, for he had many wives.

That was a reason for protection of wealth and family.

I don't understand. What are you saying? Are you saying that it benefits the household for the man to have more than one wife? Are you in favour of men having more than one wife?

This is a way of life for our patriarch, we have to understand if you are an Hebrew living in the west manogamy is a way of life, in the east it is different. The laws of the countries have something to do with that also. I realize that a lot of woman would not tolerate having another wife. Now look at the divorce rate in the US and other western countries, usually for reason of money and fornication. The question is excellent that Mauuli has challenged us with. Up for interpretation, but the truth unless someone can find a scripture is that plural marriages, not polygamy are excepted in so African and Eastern cultures.

Deut. 17:17 says: "He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold."

IMO I don't believe men who advocate or support polygamy are aware of the many negatives that come with it.

This is my observation in Africa. Women in polygamous relationships actively cheated on their husbands. This is not surprising because women also have a sexual need same as the man. So when she wants sex and the husband is not available she is going to look elsewhere to satisfy her needs. But for some strange reason men in polygamous relationships don't take this fact on board. To make matters worse, in many polygamous relationships the man is older than the woman. Now picture the situation where the woman has a higher sex drive and has to share the husband who because of age may have a lower sex drive. It is a no-brainer that in such a situation the woman is going to look outside the marriage arrangement for a lover. I doubt very much that many men who support of believing polygamous relationships will see it as a good thing if they were aware it is a licence for wives to be unfaithful to the the husband when he is working hard to provide for the home.

I like this quote from Deut. 17:17. It shows clearly the Almighty is against plural marriages.

Here is another that shows the will of God is for man to have only one wife. Notice the emphasis is on; he did not create wives for Adam but gave him only one wife.
“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female." Matthew 19:4

Hator, Adam had two wives, there was Eve and Lilith
  17. Where does it say in the Torah that Adam had two wives, one of whom was Lilith?

It's all about context. This means that a man must not take on more wives than he can take care of nor must he take on a wife that will turn his heart away from the Elohim (Creator/God). The same for the money (gold/silver) - no one is to put money above God nor let the money distract him from God; Make that money, don't let the money make you.

If Adam had only one wife than that means that the Hebrews were a nation descendant from incest but we know this is wrong from Leviticus 18 (KJV) which tells us that incest is wrong. Moses wrote the Torah (1st 5 books of the bible) according to what God told him and we know God doesn't say one thing and do the other. God is always the same and doesn't change (people do). So that should lead us to believe that Adam must have had more than one wife and that the Greeks/English/or whoever did the translations did it erroneously. We know families that come from incest become deformed physically & mentally (especially doing so for generations after generations) and we know that could not be the case for the likes of Moses, King David, Major Prophets, Minor Prophets, The Messiah, and other greats that came from the same Hebrew family. They all kept Torah (commandments, dietary laws, ceremonies, & etc) and none had leprousy (white & sickly/ill) and many were wise (King Solomon) and strong (Samson).
Also, Genesis 49:27 tells us 70 (threescore and ten) souls were born from Jacob who entered in Egypt who would later multiply greater than the Egyptians (Exodus 1:8). However, the large Hebrew nation that started from Jacob happened because Jacob took 4 wives to begin with.

It's in western culture/religion that monogamy is held onto the strongest. Strict monogamy was the Greek way (as well as homosexuality) and later the Roman way. Patriarch way of living was the Hebrew way of living which included plural marriages. A Hebrew man took on as many wives as he can take care of without being distracted from following the Torah or God's instructions/way.
It was men back then that fought wars and died leaving the male to female ratio skewed to where lots of females were left single and more populous. The same thing happens today where the majority of those who fight battles and die are men. So, what should a nation do with all those single women left behind that outnumber men?
